Suikoden II is easily one of the greatest RPGs of all times. If you want to play an English-language J-RPG, that has anime style characters, incredible visuals, music, and graphics (for the PS1 era), and one of the best storylines an RPG gamer could ask for, this game is it. I highly recommend anyone wanting to play the Suikoden series (6 games total so far), start off with Suikoden I, then Suikoden II, and then you can decide if you want to play V or III next, since the two games with direct storylines are the I and II. Suikoden I and II are the Landstalker of the PS1 (in terms of game innovations), the Shining Force of its day (major battles), and the Dragon Force of its day (in terms of coolness).

Suikoden II is set three years after the events of Suikoden and tells the story of how young friends Riou and Jowy become caught up in the conflict between the Highland Empire and the City States of Jowston. Highly recommended game if you like to have fun while playing an RPG with an outstanding storyline. I cannot recommend Suiko I and II games enough. (I have played Suikoden II probably 15 times over the last 10 years.

It is that great of a game!) (Please see my post of my 'broken gate cheat' for Suikoden II). You will love this little glitch I found. One of the greatest series of all times, Suikoden, now enters it's 2nd game. Suiko II is great because of the new 'major battle' system and intro new faces and some from the other games. The duels are also very cool. This 2nd game, Suikoden II, is actually better the the first one, if you can believe it. Oh and don't forget the 'gate trick'.

After you go with your best friend and to Muse, go all the way north to the Muse-Matilda border and 'push' the game. You now have to pray and run that you make it alive (no battles, or escape from any battle) and head NW towards Highway Village. Get the 2 characters there and level up and do the mission/quest to recruit these permanently. If you level up enough and save enough cash, you will have amazing equips for most of the game much sooner then you expected!!:) This is an excellent game - GET IT, you will be glad you did.:) My fav game ever - I have played it in my PS1 at least 15 times over the last 10 years.

The main character and his best friend Jowy are about to return home to Kyaro Town when suddenly, a surprise attack happens and all of the unit is massacred by the 'State Army' except for the Hero and Jowy. They turn back trying to avoid being killed and overhear Prince Luca Blight and their captain talking about the young soldiers in the unit dying for Luca's evil purposes. When the two young men are discovered by Rowd and Luca, they run away but are trapped at a cliff not too far away from the camp. Promising to return to the cliff if they are ever separated, Hero and Jowy leap off the cliff into the river below. Suikoden II has it all!
